What happened
Around 880 Prince Bořivoj, the first Přemyslid whose existence historians can confirm, traditionally moved his seat to a ridge above the Vltava and built a fortified settlement there: the beginning of Prague Castle, whose first building was the Church of the Virgin Mary. He was baptised, according to legend by Methodius himself. The Přemyslid family then ruled the Czech lands for more than four hundred years.
