Where it comes from
Both endings are the Latin -tio, -tionis. English took it through French; Polish borrowed the Latin words directly, and early on spelled them -cyja: informacja is first recorded in 1585, as informacyja. The c is the Latin t as Central Europe pronounced it, ts.
