The twentieth century brought revolution to Mexico and Cuba, civil war and almost forty years of dictatorship to Spain, and long struggles over land, oil and foreign companies to much of Latin America. Millions of Europeans emigrated to the Americas, and later millions of Latin Americans moved to the cities or went north. Writers from Lorca to García Márquez made literature in Spanish famous around the world.
