What happened
Prague rose against the German garrison on 5 May 1945, and the Red Army reached the city on 9 May; the west of the country, with Plzeň, had been liberated by the US Army a few days earlier. After the war about three million Germans were expelled from Czechoslovakia, often brutally — a history Czech and German historians have been working through together since the 1990s.
