Qué pasó
Czech men fought in the Austro-Hungarian army, many of them on the Italian and Eastern fronts, without much wish to die for the Habsburgs. About a hundred thousand of them — mostly prisoners of war, plus Czechs and Slovaks living abroad — formed the Czechoslovak Legions, which fought for the Allies in Russia, France and Italy. Their record helped convince the Allies to support an independent Czechoslovakia.
