Long before any Slavs, a Celtic people called the Boii lived in the land. The Romans called it Boiohaemum, the home of the Boii, and that is where the Latin name Bohemia comes from — a name the country still carries in English, though the Boii themselves had largely gone by around the time of Christ. The Czechs call the land Čechy, after themselves.
